Biography
Tara J Paterson is an actor, producer, director and content editor who grew up in a sweet little town in Ottawa, Canada to parents, Janice, (an Administrator of OSU Soccer) and David, (a Former Property Manager) and with brothers Tobin and Devin.
Tara first took the stage to perform a scene from Othello for her high school’s talent show and quickly fell in love with the whole process. She moved to Toronto and gained her honours diploma from Humber in Acting for Film & Television, while continuing to study with various acting studios and professionals such as the late, great David Rotenberg, Michèle Lonsdale Smith, Claudia Jurt, and classes at the Uta Hagen conservatory in New York.
She has won and placed as a finalist in numerous acting competitions in Ottawa, Toronto, Montréal, and Vancouver, and represented team Canada in the New York acting competition (Battle Acts). After a winning performance in Monologue Slam Canada in 2019, Tara was signed to Shortlist Artists Management. Tara began her professional film & tv career, acting in short films, web series, video games, radio plays, and tv series’ with roles in shows such as THE HARDY BOYS (HULU), THE BOYS (AMAZON/SONY), RABBIT HOLE (PARAMOUNT), PLAN B (CBC), IN THE DARK (THE CW), and recently the buzzed superhero in GEN-V (AMAZON/SONY).
Tara also fell back into the world of theatre when she was cast as the fiery #7 in Gladstone Theatre’s THE WOLVES, where she was able to combine her loves of acting and soccer, and her performance was met with rave reviews. Since then, Tara has garnered more noteworthy performances starring on stage as Hermione in THE WINTER’S TALE (Dandelion Theatre,) Mya/Rose in HOUSE OF WHALE (Monologue Slam,) and most recently as The Dancer in The Great Canadian Theatre Company’s season opener THE SUPINE COBBLER.
In addition to acting, Tara fuels her creative passions of producing, directing, and editing as a freelancer and within her own company, Creative Difference & Co. which has produced the filmed adaption of her directorial debut, ANTIGONE: PRESENTED BY THE GIRLS OF ST. CATHERINES. Creative Difference is currently in post-production of the film AMPLIFIED, set to release in 2024.
As an editor and videographer, Tara continues to work on original content that showcases the world of film, television, theatre, dance, events, competitions and more, with her work spanning across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. She has also mentored, taught, and filmed for youth acting retreats in all aforementioned areas.
Tara now splits her time all over Canada and beyond, working in numerous positions in theatre and film/tv.
